Project Life 2018: Week 2

In an attempt to not get too far “behind” this year in my Project Life album, I am going to try to do the previous week’s spread during the current week. So far, it’s been working. I finished Week 2 last week and am working on Week 3 this week. But it’s only January and there are a lot of weeks to go!

For Week 2’s spread I used the Summit Documenter kit from Studio Calico. I liked the bold colors and adventure theme.

Here’s a look at the entire spread:

It was a pretty regular week for us, except for the rain, which was a welcome change from all the dry weather we’ve been having in southern California. I picked up the red and yellow cards and embellishments to pair them with some of the red and yellows in the photos for the week.

There is a lot of typed journaling on the cards because I found (and tried!) a great way to print on the 3×4 cards using my printer and once I started, I couldn’t stop!!

Through some rabbit hole of Instagram clicking, I found the lovely Petra Corcoran’s blog and stumbled upon this post about printing on 3×4 journal cards. With my previous printer, an Epson R3000, I was able to directly feed 3×4 cards into the printer and this was never an issue. But late last year, I picked up a new Epson SureColor P800 and was dismayed to find out there was a minimum size for the paper feeder and it wouldn’t accept 3×4 cards (too small)!

I finally got around to trying Petra’s method with some die cut machine mats I cut down and it worked great! I did notice however, that because my mat is pretty sticky, it worked better on the thicker cards (like these from the Studio Calico kit) and not on some 3×4 cardstock I had cut down. The cardstock I used was thinner and so it didn’t peel off the mat very well and the paper curled.

I am quite thrilled about this solution nevertheless.

For the rest of the spread, I embellished the photos with small clusters of stickers and kept everything else fairly simple. I created a flip-up card using the “woohoo!” card to hide a story about how my daughter’s potty training is going.

Now onto week 3!
