Project Life 2018: Week 3

I just finished taking the Day By Day class at Studio Calico, which was all about pocket page scrapbooking and picked up some useful tips. One of them was a reminder to journal because the words can tell the stories that the photos can’t. So for this week’s spread I found myself journaling a lot and writing down the little stories that made up our week.


Here’s a look at the entire spread.

 

I mostly worked with the Summit documenter kit from Studio Calico again, but this time I chose a softer palette of pinks, yellow, and aqua. I wanted to include some navy blue as well, picking up on the dark blue car in one of the photos from daycare and found the word strips from the Story Board kit in my stash to use.

I kept the embellishments pretty simple, just using some of the puffy stickers from the Summit kit along with the word strips and other word stickers from my stash.

For the journaling, I included both typed journaling and my handwriting directly on the photos. I don’t love my handwriting but it’s usually the only solution when I need to write on photos and I haven’t planned ahead of time to digitally include the text.

 

Although these albums are almost always from my perspective, I like to think of them as “family albums” and would like to include other voices as well. I’ve asked Papa continually to write some words down for me so I could include them in here, but he’s never given me anything. I think he felt pressured and thought he had to write some kind of literary masterpiece! This time I printed out the photos, which were from his day with our daughter, and showed them to him. I asked him to write some captions or words about what was going on in the photos. He was able to do this and I loved including his voice this week in the spread!
