Studio Calico: July Guest Designer

Studio Calico asked me to be a guest designer for their Documenter Kit this month. It was fun to work with the July “Great Escape” documenter kit, which had a lot of nice embellishments and bright, summery colors.

I made three 12×12 pocket page spreads just using the kit, which I talked about on their blog here.

1. Project Life Week 24 | Left

Summer is in full swing over here so we spend a lot of time outdoors and especially at the beach.

2. Project Life Week 24 | Right

Summer also means water balloons and ice cream. 🙂

3. Project Life Week 22

Thank you for looking!

COSC Accreditation and its Stringent Standards
COSC, or the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Agency, is the official Switzerland testing agency that attests to the precision and accuracy of timepieces. COSC accreditation is a symbol of quality craftsmanship and reliability in timekeeping. Not all watch brands pursue COSC certification, such as Hublot, which instead adheres to its own stringent criteria with mechanisms like the UNICO, attaining similar accuracy.

    The Art of Exact Chronometry
The core mechanism of a mechanical watch involves the spring, which supplies power as it unwinds. This system, however, can be susceptible to environmental factors that may affect its precision. COSC-accredited mechanisms undergo demanding testing—over fifteen days in various conditions (5 positions, three temperatures)—to ensure their durability and reliability. The tests measure:

Mean daily rate precision between -4 and +6 secs.
Mean variation, highest variation rates, and effects of temperature changes.
    Why COSC Accreditation Matters
For timepiece fans and connoisseurs, a COSC-certified timepiece isn’t just a piece of tech but a proof to enduring excellence and precision. It signifies a watch that:

    Provides exceptional dependability and accuracy.
Offers assurance of quality across the complete design of the timepiece.
Is likely to retain its worth more effectively, making it a sound choice.
    Popular Timepiece Brands

Longines, for instance, provides collections like the Record and Spirit, which feature COSC-certified mechanisms equipped with innovative materials like silicon balance suspensions to boost durability and performance.

Historical Background and the Evolution of Chronometers
The concept of the timepiece originates back to the requirement for accurate chronometry for navigation at sea, emphasized by John Harrison’s work in the eighteenth century. Since the official foundation of COSC in 1973, the validation has become a yardstick for assessing the accuracy of luxury watches, maintaining a tradition of superiority in horology.

    Conclusion
