Day In The Life: June 20, 2017

I’ve followed along during Day In The Life and Week In The Life previously, but have never done either project. It always looked fun but I’m usually already stretching myself thin across several projects. But when I thought about it this year, I kind of wished I had captured a typical day last year because I know life looks pretty different now.

So this year, I decided to participate and captured a few photos every hour on June 20th. It was fun! Coincidentally, I happened to be taking a mini book class at Studio Calico that was being done in a Traveler’s Notebook format and figured I could use the class ideas for making this album.

I started by creating my custom traveler’s notebook insert. The general template is from the mini book class. I used various pieces of paper (kraft, vellum, plain white copy) and sandwiched a cut-up page protector and tag inside as well.

To begin, I went through all my photos from the day, minimally edited them, and resized them according to the pages they’d be on.

I did a combination of handwritten and typed journaling and like seeing the variety. Embellishments were kept simple with a combination of labels, stamps, and washi/pattern paper. I stuck to flat items since this book is already thick!

To indicate the time of day, I typed up the times on the computer, printed and cut them out, and adhered them onto each photo or page.

Here’s a look at the pages in detail.

The cover was kept simple with some stamping, washi, and a label. That heart puffy sticker is the only non-flat embellishment I used!

The first page opens up to the date, stamped a few times.

The first few pages document my waking up early (and the baby as well), getting ready for work, and the first couple hours at my job.

The pocket page sandwiched in the book makes for some nice overlapped pages.

For an interactive element, I created a fold-out page to document some time at work. I attached a tab that says, “work hard” on one side and “play hard” on the other.

The tag I sandwiched in between the pages makes a fun flap to stick some journaling and a photo on.

I added a pocket to hold a tag with the sweet photo of my daughter and I running back home from daycare.

The final pages are a mix of different sized pages and photos documenting the evening.

I love how this chunky little book turned out and I’m pretty sure I’ll do this project again!

  4. Hi just wanted to give you a brief heads up and let you know a few of the pictures aren’t loading correctly. I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different browsers and both show the same outcome.
